    Community farming in Prague

Towards the end of 2019 we left Cambridge UK and arrived in Prague with the dream of being closer to family and to start our chiropractic clinic. The experience has been great with the majority of our energy and focus put towards growing the clinic and helping those in our community. Just like many other businesses, we have had to close our doors temporarily in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The consequences of this pandemic are still unknown. One can only speculate what the new norm will be. However, aspects of our life must change and will change.

Since the beginning of March, people have been frantically bulk buying food and other supplies. With global supply chains being so dependent on each other and everyone being accustomed to next day deliveries, it raises the question of “where is the threshold before something breaks?”.

I hope we never find out where the threshold is, and I think that this is the right time to try to reinforce the values and philosophy that we have been sharing with countless individuals who seek chiropractic care. We always discuss eating local, sustainable, organic and nutritious food that needs to be the basis of healing or growth.

This prompted us to join our friend Brett and Lucie in their community farm pilot project https://www.facebook.com/Prokopskazahrada/. For over a year they have been tirelessly building a farm of their dreams to help their community. They are still not open to the public but hope to be in the near future.

The experience of working on the farm has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. It is hard work with plenty to learn, but with some basic instructions and a “get it done attitude”, I think that anyone can help themselves and their community.

The only way to create stability, sustainability, safety and health is to build community from the Roots up. The catch is you may need to get your hands dirty.

    Brett’s suggestions for self learning:

    – Read into the topic of permaculture gardening

    – Edible acres https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCznk4o83WjKFCwEZ8th8wHQ
